When the actors in a cruise ship production of Fiddler on the Roof get seasick, the show is cancelled! Tevye, the only healthy cast member, has to figure out what to do next! He turns to a group of nuns, who are on board for a little rest and relaxation, to help put on an impromptu show. This is a light, entertaining musical that will appeal to all audiences.
Chicago Jewish Theatre, Chicago’s only theatre company producing works dealing exclusively with Jewish themes, culture and history officially announces its 2004-2005 season. “I think we have chosen a very good variety of productions for this season,” says CJT’s Company Manager Brian LeTraunik. “We have tried to challenge ourselves by offering such diverse fare as a musical and a classic of Jewish dramatic literature.” Chicago Jewish Theatre’s season consists of: "A Rosen by Any Other Name" by Israel Horovitz, running September 30-October 31, 2004. This sequel to last year’s wildly successful production of Today, I am a Fountain Pen deals with 13 year old Stanley Rosen as he struggles to prepare for his Bar Mitzvah and learns what it means to be Jewish…and a Rosen! Chicago premiere! "Meshuggah-Nuns!" by Dan Goggin, running November 18-December 19, 2004 (no performance November 25. A matinee will be added November 27). This toe-tapping musical is the latest in the series of popular Nunsense shows. The cast of Fiddler on the Roof on board the Faiths of All Nations Cruise has come down with seasickness! All except Howard, the actor playing Tevye. Luckily the Little Sisters of Hoboken are there to save the day. Using their show business acumen, Howard and the sisters put on an impromptu show to entertain the passengers. "Oy!" by Rich Orloff running January 20-Februray 20, 2005. A hilarious series of sketches about Jewish life! This comedy explores such experiences as being the lone gentile in a Jewish law firm, the fact that even Albert Einstein had a Jewish mother and the power and versatility of that little word “oy”. This is sure to have the audiences rolling in the aisles! "The Diary of Anne Frank" by Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett, newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman, running March 17-April 17, 2005. Rounding out the season will be a presentation of this classic tale of a young Dutch girl as she and her family hide in an attic from the invading Nazis. This harrowing and hopeful tale of one young girl’s assertion that “deep down, all people are good,” is an important story to be told, and CJT is very glad to be able to bring this classic to life.
